I saw something outside that I thought purrhaps might be Equius, but surprise! It wasn't Equius at all! It was a botanical sculptchirr and-

[Nepeta makes it obvious that she has never made cookies before.]

...I hunted all the things we need.

[And Nepeta is on her way to the kitchen. She'll likely pop out of the ventilation system and not through the door.]

[Souji has to think about how to respond to that. Before he gets the chance, she pops up. Souji looks up at her, where he's standing at the counter. He's not particularly alarmed or surprised--at least not that anyone would notice.]

...These aren't really that hard to hunt.

[She jumps down onto the floor on all fours, then stands up and giggles, flashing a bit of a toothy smile. Tasty rocks will take her mind off of Karkat.]

[That's what Souji hopes.]

I'll show you. [He already has the ingredients out and was in the process of measuring them out.]

Cookies are made out of all these things.

[Look at all this STUFF.]

Not so much dirt. [He doesn't mind her messing with the ingredients.]

[She is most definitely checking all of these things out. Including sticking her finger in the vanilla extract and giving it a taste.

She winces appropriately.]

It'll taste good when everything's mixed.

[Which he starts to do in the appropriate order.]

[Everything mixed together makes slurry for the cookie sludge! This is quite fascinating!]

[Chocolate chips, of course.]

[He briefly considers coming up with some story, but then just tells the truth.]

It comes from beans, mixed with milk, sugar, and vanilla.

[Might as well sample them!]

[Maybe a second one, just to make sure. And a third for good measure.]

[He smiles slightly and lets her do that until he needs to mix those in, too.]

[Hopefully that's soon. She's got a handful now. Processed sugar, why so awesome?]

[Soon enough that there are still some left for the cookies. He pours them in and continues to mix the dough.]

Once it's mixed, you have to heat it until it becomes harder.

Right.

[He uses a spoon to deposit dough on a cookie sheet, and then passes the spoon and bowl to Nepeta once those are in the oven. There's not much left in it, but enough to keep her occupied.]

You can eat this while we wait.

[It is the most delicious spoon she's ever had.]

Maybe someday. [There would probably be an event with animals eventually.]

[Nepeta tries to pear through the dark window at the cookies in the oven. Clearly her patience lasts less than ten minutes.]

[He turns and leans against the counter, watching her.]

Not all humans. And not all foods.
